KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- It's a move so wanted by Tennessee football fans that it was asked during Butch Jones' introductory news conference on Friday.
Tee Martin to Tennessee.
It could happen.
Local 8 sports contributor Austin Price says Martin has been extended an offer to join Jones' new staff.
Martin is nearing the end of his first year on Lane Kiffin's staff at Southern California. The former Tennessee quarterback is the Trojans' wide receivers coach.
He held the same position at Kentucky from 2010-2011.
When asked if Jones would reach out to Martin, the new Vols' coach said, "We all understand what he's mean to to this football program. Obviously he would be an individual we would reach out too."
Martin quarterbacked the Vols to their national championship in 1998.
Meanwhile, AL.com is reporting that Jones has added Auburn linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen to his staff. Thigpen is considered an excellent recruiter. Recruiting publications have named Thigpen one of the nation's top 25 recruiters on three different occasions.
Thigpen isn't the only Auburn coach Jones has reportedly targeted. Multiple outlets out of Alabama are reporting that Auburn defensive backs coach Willie Martinez will also join Tennessee's staff.
2012 was Martinez's only year at Auburn. Prior to that he was at Oklahoma and he's also severed as Georgia's defensive coordinator.
