KODAK, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Smokies minor league baseball team is opening its centennial season on April 13 with an offer of $1 tickets, beginning this weekend.
The Smokies trace the team's lineage to the Knoxville Appalachians, which took the field in 1911.
Beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, fans can buy an opening game ticket for 100 pennies -- $1.
What the team bills as the "Deal of the Century" will end at 5 p.m. March 31.
Fans can buy the ticket online at www.smokiesbaseball.com, at the box office in Kodak or by phone at (865) 286-2300.
The Smokies are a Class AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs and play in the Southern League.
