ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) - Current Alcoa boys basketball coach Tony Jones will tell you success both in life and basketball comes from building relationships. The Sonny J basketball camp he is holding to raise for the the scholarship in his father's name is proof that is true.
Former UT coach Bruce Pearl stopped by the camp Thursday afternoon to speak to the kids. Pearl says it was good to be back on a basketball court speaking to players, "It is fun to be back and some of my messages are fairly consistent, but it was fun to be out there."
Former Vol Wayne Chism is helping out with the camp and says hearing his former coach speak brings back some memories, "The way he said it, the way he teaches. Everything he does, I just remember it."
While basketball fundamentals are a big part of the camp, it's life skills that are the biggest focus, so says Tony Jones, "What I want to do is teach these boys and girls life lessons through basketball and what a great vehicle besides basketball?"
