KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- According to the Knoxville Police Department, UT sophomore tight end Brendan Downs was arrested early Sunday morning outside Whiskey Dix located at 1912 Cumberland Avenue.
KPD says a bar manager escorted Downs outside the bar after finding Downs was drinking underage.
Once outside, Downs used loud and profane language, creating a disturbance. He was arrested for underage consumption and public intoxication.
Downs has played in nine games for UT, including a start against Akron in which he caught a touchdown pass. He is used primarily as a blocking tight end.
UT athletic department spokesperson Jimmy Stanton told WVLT that the university is aware of the situation and is gathering information. Stanton said the matter will be handled internally.
