KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee basketball player Renaldo Woolridge, aka "Swiperboy," wrote a new song in the hours following the news that Osama Bin Laden was killed.
The song, "USA Troops (Thank You)," thanks the United States Armed Forces for their work, courage and the sacrifices the men and women that serve the country have made.
Woolridge said he wrote the song in about 20 minutes.
"When you rap from the heart, the song carries itself. Me being able to write it so fast just came strictly from my emotions and how I feel about the topic," Woolridge told WVLT Monday afternoon.
"I think it's something everyone can relate to, and I hope that the soldiers can get a chance to hear it and understand that we're just thankful for everything."
Woolridge saw the news of Bin Laden's death after playing a game of pick-up basketball on the Tennessee campus. He went back to his dorm room, wrote the lyrics, recorded it, then sent the file to his disc jockey in Nashville to "mix."
From there, Woolridge added military and patriotic photos as a back-drop to the lyrics.
"I just hope the troops will get a chance to hear it and know that we're grateful for everything that they do."
