KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (release) -- Senior Nick Williams tossed seven two-hit innings and the No. 28 Diamond Vols improved to 8-0 on the season with a dominating 13-2 win over Quinnipiac on Friday.
The 8-0 mark ties the best start in program history for the Vols. Tennessee started 8-0 in both the 1992 and 2003 seasons.
Nick Williams picked up his third win of the young season with a seven-inning, two-hit performance. The Knoxville native struck out five and allowed just one run.
The Vols tallied 13 runs off 13 hits and limited Quinnipiac (0-4) to just three hits. Scott Price, Vincent Jackson, David Houser and Taylor Smart each had two hits in the game. Price and Maddox each drove in three runs. Maddox hit a three-run home run in the second inning.
Price's double extended his hitting streak to 20 games, dating back to April 26, 2013 at Florida. He is now tied with former Vol Kris Bennett for the fourth-longest hit streak in program history. Tennessee legend Condredge Holloway holds the record at 27 games.
Tennessee looks for the best start in program history on Saturday, when the Vols take the field against the Bobcats at 2 p.m.
