KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee Director of Sports Medicine Jason McVeigh announced Friday that following an evaluation, defensive end Jacques Smith suffered a fractured metatarsal in his right foot. The injury occurred during Wednesday afternoon’s practice.
Smith, who enters his sophomore season in 2011, will have surgery next week to repair the fracture and is expected to be ready to participate in summer workouts when they begin in June. A native of Ooltewah, Smith played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2010, recording 24 tackles, two sacks, and five tackles for loss while earning Freshman All-SEC honors.
