KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - It was a good for former Vols at the Olympics with four past University of Tennessee athletes winning a medal.
It started with DeeDee Trotter running the first leg of the women's 4x400 meter relay. She gave the Americans a nice lead on their way to a gold medal perfomance.
Justin Gatlin went next as a member the men's 4x100 meter relay. He and the rest of the United States team tied the world record. But it wouldn't be enough to capture gold. Usain Bolt and the Jamacians ran a world record time, just edging the Americans who finished with the silver.
It was Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings help lead the US women to their fifth consecutive gold medal in women's basketball, 86-50 over France. Parker led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
