Donahue finishes 7th in final as fans at home watch

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Fans packed the Lenoir City Chili's once again to cheer on their own Olympian, Claire Donahue.

They gathered about the same time yesterday to watch her swim in the 100-meter butterfly semifinals, so they did the same for the finals.

"I'm so happy to be here. I'm so happy to watch my sister race in the finals of the Olympics. It's just incredible, and I know it's a dream come true for her," said Dean Donahue, Claire's brother.

The Lenoir City finished in 7th, but her time of 57.48 was just short of her personal best.

After the race, Donahue said that she couldn't have asked for a better race. Her brother rooting from east Tennessee is very proud.

"I mean, she swam incredibly. I mean she swam one of her best times. I thought she did incredible. It was a fast race," said Dean Donahue, Claire's brother.

Donahue's US teammate Dana Vollmer brought home gold to America with a world record time, cracking the 56 second mark.

Good news for Donahue fans, she may not be done at the Olympics. She is expected to swim in the prelims of the 400-meter relay on Friday.
