KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Force release/WVLT) -- The Knoxville Force beat Jacksonville United 2-1 Saturday evening at Regal Soccer Stadium.
The Force started off strong, attacking Jacksonville’s goal with several good shots. At 30:10, Robbie Hill tapped in a Force goal fed by a shot on goal by Niall McCabe. After a final corner kick by Jacksonville, the Force went in at halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Both the Force and United teams came back onto the field after the half being aggressive, with each being called for several fouls. Jacksonville’s Tommy Krizanovic scored at 72:48. Knoxville’s own Brandon Tarr scored a header off a corner kick from Jack Coulton at 86:30.
Prior to the Force's game, the Lady Force also saw action. Knoxville lost to the Gulf Coast Texans 2-1.
The Gulf Coast Texans, the dominant leader of the Southeast Conference, traveled to Knoxville Saturday to play the Knoxville Lady Force in a Women’s Premiere Soccer League match at Regal Stadium. The game started off with both teams being aggressive on offense and playing head-to-head ball. At 26:30, The Texans’ Mia Persson scored an unassisted goal from the center box. The Lady Force were pressing hard in the last ten minutes of the half, but the teams went in at halftime with the Texans in the lead 1-0.
In a one-on-one at 54:47, Tina Murray chipped a shot over the Lady Force goalie to score the second goal for the Texans. At 74:50, Annie Galloway headed a cross from Briana Buckley for the Lady Force’s first score, and the first goal that has been scored against the Texans this season.
