Governors Stadium to be renovated for 2014

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials of Austin Peay State University say a new football stadium will be ready for the 2014 season.

The State Building Commission last week approved $16 million to build a replacement for Governors Stadium on the main Clarksville campus.

The field has been home to Austin Peay's football and woman's track program for seven decades.

Built as Municipal Stadium, the structure became Governors Stadium when the university took it over in 1993.

The west side of the stadium will be demolished and rebuilt after the season ends in 2013. There will be minimal renovations to the east side, or visitor section.
