Ice Bears Sign Berkley Scott

Knoxville Ice Bears head coach Mike Craigen has signed ECHL forward Berkley Scott.

Scott, 6’3” 210 lbs, forward hails from Anoka, MN and is making his return to the Knoxville Ice Bears after spending parts of the last two seasons with the Utah Grizzlies and was traded on December 5, 2013 to the San Francisco Bulls who folded this week.

With the loss of the ECHL franchise, Scott decided to come back to where his professional career began. During his time in the ECHL, he played in 62 games accumulating 24 points (14G, 10A) between the two organizations. Prior to leaving Knoxville, Scott was averaging over 1 point per game in the 2012-2013 season – 27 games played for 31 points (14G, 18A).

“We are excited to add a premier offensive player at this level to see if he is the jump we need to turn our game around, couldn’t ask for better timing,” said Craigen.

Scott made his professional debut in 2011-12 with Knoxville where he played 53 games and collected 30 points (9G, 21A).
“He was irreplaceable last season and we’ve been trying to find someone to fill his skates since he left. Best way to replace him was to get him back. He is excited to be here and will make everyone on the ice with him better,” added Craigen.

To make room on the 18 man roster, the team has released defenseman Lucas Schramm. Schramm was the only participant from Free Agent Showcase to make the Knoxville Ice Bears roster and played in 25 games this season.

Scott will make his return to the Knoxville Ice Bears this weekend when the Ice Bears host one of the newest members of the SPHL in the Peoria Rivermen. Friday is Teacher Appreciation/Olympic Tribute night where the team will be wearing special USA jerseys which will be auctioned off immediately following the game.

Saturday is Star Wars night where members of the 501st Legion will be wearing costumes from the two trilogies. Puck drops at 7:30 both nights.
