KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - In a best of three series it's important to win the first game. The Knoxville Ice Bears did just that with a 3-0 win over Columbus.
Ben Souders led the way for the Ice Bears with 2 goals, including an empty netter in the final minute to seal the game. Bryan Hince was sharp in goal, stopping all 19 shots he faced.
The very physical game was no surprise to Knoxville head coach Mike Craigen who was happy his team set the tone in the contest. "We've really been playing with that intensity for the better of two months so we were ready for it and I think we really set the tone. We were the thermostat rather than the thermometer. We didn't wait to see what it was going to be like. We went out and set it the way we wanted it to be."
The Ice Bears go for the series sweep in Columbus on Saturday at 7:30. Knoxville would host game three on Sunday night at 7:30 if necessary.
