KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (team release) -- The Knoxville Ice Bears extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-2 victory over the Augusta RiverHawks.
Balanced scoring and an effective power play lifted the Ice Bears to victory after falling behind early in the game on a goal by RiverHawks forward Taylor McReynolds at 13:08 of the first period.
Knoxville drew even at 16:50 of the opening period when rising star Berkley Scott notched his fourth goal of the season on the power play when he picked up a rebound off a shot from Mark Van Vliet. Scott was in tight around the goal crease when he rifled the puck over the netminder into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
The Ice Bears struck early at 1:57 of the second period when Shaun Arvai scored his second goal of the season off a face-off win from David Segal. He uncorked a slapshot from the point which deflected off a RiverHawk player and past the goaltender BJ Obrien to take the 2-1 lead.
The teams traded opportunities throughout the duration of the middle period until Knoxville defenseman Steve Wiedler snuck in on the weak side and fired a one-timer off an Emery Olauson pass, giving the Ice Bears a 3-1 lead.
Augusta climbed back into the game at 18:00 of the second period when Chris Waterstradt scored to draw the visitors within one. The Ice Bears had successfully killed off three consecutive penalties prior to giving up the goal.
The Ice Bears finished off the scoring when Matt Pierce notched a power play goal at 18:39 of the third period, giving the Ice Bears a 4-2 victory.
