Resmondo wins 45th Smoky Mountain Classic

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The strongest survived to Sunday at the 45th annual Smoky Mountain Classic, with the strongest of all coming out on top...again.

For the sixth straight year, Resmondo won the Smoky Mountain Classic.

Resmondo, the number one-ranked team in the nation, beat second-ranked LaserVision 35-19 in five innings to claim the championship.

LaserVision run-ruled Resmondo Saturday night putting the club in Sunday's loser's bracket, but the Winter Haven, FL based squad answered.

"Last night after we lost to LaserVision, that fired us up," Resmondo outfielder Nic Santana said.

"It put a little spark to the fire and we just went at it and played as a team and that's how we do it."

Santana was named co-MVP of the tournament. He shared the honor with teammate Andrew Purcell.

Resmondo needed three wins Sunday. The team made it look easy. First beating Shoppe/Louisville Slugger 33-17, then taking two from LaserVision, but both run-rule.

"Today we came with a different intensity and it started in batting practice," Resmondo outfielder Jeremy Isenhower said.

"We just stayed on it all day and everyone got in a groove and got going. Once we get that energy in the dugout, it's hard to beat us."

The win was Resmondo's record ninth Smoky Mountain Classic title.
