KODAK, Tenn. (team release) -- Tuesday night’s game between the Tennessee Smokies and Pensacola Blue Wahoos was suspended due to the weather and unplayable field conditions with the Smokies leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game will resume on Wednesday evening starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Smokies batting in the fourth. Wednesday’s regularly scheduled game will now be a 7-inning game and begin approximately 30 minutes following the completion of the suspended game.
Fans with tickets to the Tuesday night’s game can exchange them for admission to a future Smokies’ regular season home game of their choice at the Smokies’ ticket office. Fans can contact the Smokies front office at (865) 286-2300 for more information.
Pensacola jumped out to an early lead when Jake Fellhauer tripled off Smokies starter Dae-Eun Rhee and scored on a Ryan LaMarre single to give the Blue Wahoos a 1-0 lead.
The Smokies wasted little time taking over the lead scoring twice in the first inning. Matt Szczur was hit by a Kyle Lotzkar pitch and Logan Watkins singled to put two runners on base. Back-to-back doubles by Justin Bour and Greg Rohan brought in two runs to give the Smokies a 2-1 lead.
Both pitchers kept their opponent off the scoreboard through the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, with ominous clouds looming, the Smokies loaded the bases with two outs and Matt Szczur at bat with a 1-1 count, when the umpires called for the tarp.
Following a 45-minute delay, the decision was made to suspend the game and resume on Wednesday evening.
Following tomorrow’s doubleheader, the Smokies and Blue Wahoos will conclude their five-game series on Thursday at Smokies Park. Tickets for the rest of the series can be purchased online at www.smokiesbaseball.com or by calling (865) 286-2300.
