Smokies fall to Lookouts, 3-0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Justin Bour went 3-for-4, but the Tennessee Smokies dropped the opener of a three-game series on the road against the Chattanooga Lookouts, 3-0, on Sunday evening at AT&T Field. The win was Chattanooga’s seventh straight.

The game went scoreless into the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Lookouts broke through against Tennessee starter Nick Struck. With two outs, Chattanooga strung together three straight singles with Blake Smith knocking in the game’s first run. A fielding error by Junior Lake allowed the second run of the inning to score to give the Lookouts a 2-0 edge.

The Lookouts extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Jake Lemmerman led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch by reliever Casey Harman.
In his bid to win for the fifth straight start and become the Southern League’s first 10-game winner, Struck (9-7) took the tough-luck loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings.

Chattanooga starter Chris Reed, the Dodgers’ first-round draft pick last year, tossed three scoreless innings, but it was reliever Wes Roemer (2-1) picking up the win in relief after working three shutout frames. Steve Ames worked a scoreless ninth to notch his eighth save of the season.

Tennessee second baseman Logan Watkins went 0-for-3, snapping his team-best 13-game hitting streak.

The Smokies and Lookouts play the middle contest of their three-game series on Monday night at 7:15 p.m. ET when Tennessee sends right-hander Dae-Eun Rhee (4-4, 5.35 ERA) to the mound against Chattanooga righty Allen Webster (3-7, 4.39 ERA) at AT&T Field.
