CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WVLT) -- If you're driving around Jefferson or Hamblen Counties, you won't see anything that has to do with Front Row Motorsports.
Even though the owner of a NASCAR team resides and works in those counties.
No signs. No logos. Nothing.
That's just the way Bob Jenkins wants it.
"I've never been one that wanted the visibility," Front Row owner Bob Jenkins recently told WVLT.
"I race because I love racing. I'm just a very competitive person. I just want to see what we can build with this race organization."
That building is taking shape, but that doesn't mean Jenkins hasn't had to make personal sacrifices along the way.
In the team's infancy, this local business and transportation entrepreneur often had to go into his own pockets to make ends meet.
"That's probably not the smartest way to operate a race team. But when you go thru a period of time when the sponsorship money may not be adequate to race at the level you want too, you can't afford to go backward. So what we've tried to do is use that as a safety net and not as a primary funding source and over time it's gotten to be less and less."
That's because the team continues to improve and improve, with the biggest breakthrough coming last spring at Talladega. That's when David Ragan gave Front Row its first win.
It was more than a milestone, though, it was a win that opened Jenkins eyes.
"What I did realize winning at Talladega is just how many people do follow Front Row Motorsports. I was just covered up with folks from the East Tennessee area with 'hey, I've been a fan for years and years', and I didn't know they were even race fans at all. So that part's been really fun.
Front Row's Sprint Cup drivers include David Ragan in the 34 and David Gilliland in the 36. 2014 marks the team's sixth year running a full-time Sprint Cup schedule.
