OMAHA, Neb. (release) -- Former Lady Vol Christine Magnuson swam her way into the finals of the 50-meter freestyle Sunday evening in Omaha, Neb.
Magnuson, a 2008 Olympian, has one final chance to make her second Olympic team in Monday’s final. She swam the second-fastest time in both the preliminaries and the semifinals of the 50 freestyle.
Magnuson finished just behind Jessica Hardy in both races Sunday, swimming 24.75 seconds in her first race and 24.72 in the semifinals. The top two swimmers in the final earn a trip to the London Games.
The 50 freestyle finals will be televised by NBC on Monday beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Lady Vols Caroline Simmons and Abbie Alton swam in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle. Simmons finished 56th in 26.17 and Alton was 102nd in 26.58.
