Lady Vol softball to host meet and greet on Feburary 1st

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/SUBMITTED) -- The Tennessee softball team will host its fourth annual open house on Saturday, Feb. 1, with the 2014 Meet and Greet. This year's event will also feature a kids carnival in addition to stadium tours and interactions with the Tennessee players and coaches.

"We're excited to host the fans at Lee Stadium next month," co-head coach Karen Weekly said. "It should be a great day with a lot of fun activities planned for the fans and children."

This year's Meet and Greet will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with tours of the stadium and a kids carnival that will feature face painting, poster making, chalk art and inflatables. Lady Vol players will help lead tours around the stadium, sharing a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes on gamedays. The newly-renovated batting cages will be open for kids and Smokey will stop by from 11:30 to 12:30 to greet the fans.

There will also be an opportunity for fans who attend to have the first opportunity to view available seat locations and purchase season tickets before available locations are released to the public on Monday, Feb. 3. Reserved chair back seats are sold out for the 2014 season; however reserved bleacher back seats are still available for the season. Reserved bleacher back season tickets are only $75 and can be purchased online at UTTIX.com or by calling the ticket office at 865-656-1200.

At 12:30 p.m., co-head coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly will introduce the fans to each of the players. Autographs and pictures with the team will start at 1 p.m.

The Tennessee softball season starts on Feb. 7, when the Lady Vols take on Northern Colorado at the Georgia Southern Tournament in Statesboro, Ga. UT's first home game at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium is on March 5 against Wright State. Tennessee will play a double header that evening, starting at 5 p.m. ET. The Lady Vols' first SEC home series of the season is against South Carolina with three games from March 21-23.

The Lady Vols enjoyed one of the finest seasons in program history in 2013, finishing as the national runner-up, making their sixth Women's College World Series appearance in nine years and posting their eighth 50-win season with a final record of 52-12. UT returns several key players from its 2013 WCWS Championship Series run, including All-American seniors Ellen Renfroe (2011, 2012) and Madison Shipman (2012, 2013). With 11 returning veterans and seven exciting newcomers, Tennessee is primed for another big season and has goals that culminate in Oklahoma City.
