STARKVILLE, Miss. (release) -- On Saturday afternoon at the MSU Softball Stadium in Starkville, Miss., the #11 Tennessee Lady Vol softball team (22-7, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) banged out 13 hits in securing a series victory over Mississippi State (18-14, 3-9 SEC), 10-3.
Junior second baseman Lauren Gibson bashed her team-leading ninth HR of the campaign as part of a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort, while sophomore shortstop Madison Shipman was 3-for-4 with a RBI. Senior utility player Shelby Burchell was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs knocked in as the starting designated player.
In relief sophomore Ellen Renfroe improved to 17-1 overall, tossing six frames of work while allowing seven hits, walking one and striking out eight.
