KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/SUBMITTED) -- Los Angeles Sparks' Candace Parker has been named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games Monday, July 1 through Sunday, July 7. It is her second recognition of the season and the 12th of her career.
Averaging 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists, the University of Tennessee product led the Sparks to a 3-0 week in which they outscored the opposition by an average of 21.6 points.
In a 96-66 win over Western Conference leader Minnesota on July 2, Parker matched her season high in points with 27 and pulled down eight rebounds. On July 4, she grabbed another eight rebounds in addition to her 20 points, five assists and three blocks in a 97-89 victory over New York. Parker capped off the week scoring 18 points, 14 of which she tallied in the third quarter, to help extend the Sparks' lead from 10 to 20 in a 93-66 win over San Antonio.
Parker leads the Sparks in points (17.7 ppg), rebounds (9.1 rpg) and blocks (2.67 bpg), and is second in assists (3.7 apg) through 12 games played. Currently she ranks in the top 10 among league leaders in blocks (second), rebounds (fourth), and points (eighth).
