KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- True freshman safety Pat Martin is leaving the Tennessee football program. Martin confirmed to Sports Overtime late Monday morning that he made the decision to leave Tennessee based on personal reasons.
Martin was the first 4-star commitment in Derek Dooley's 2011 recruiting class and played a key role in helping recruit other top prospects to Knoxville. The Greenville, South Carolina native enrolled at Tennessee for Summer classes and had been playing safety for the Vols in Fall camp. He hadn't been a factor in what is a deep Vols defensive backfield.
Freshman Tino Thomas who was left out of the 2011 class due to oversigning won't be able to join the team until January. The Vols will be able to sign one extra player in the 2012 recruiting class.
