KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/SUBMITTED) -- The Tennessee softball team has added one more to its 2013 signing class as Alley Perkins has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Vols in the 2013-14 academic year.
Perkins will be a junior next season as she spent the past two seasons playing for Santa Ana College. The 5-4 Huntington Beach, Calif., native is a utility player whose versatility will strengthen an already-impressive 2014 Tennessee roster.
"Alley Perkins will be a great addition to our team," Tennessee co-head coach Ralph Weekly said. "She is a very good athlete who brings a blend of speed and power to the field. She is a left-handed hitter who can play the short game or hit away. She is a player who can play a lot of different positions and will fill a very important role as a utility player."
Perkins is coming off an outstanding 2013 sophomore season with Santa Ana. She was named a 2013 NFCA CalJC All-American for the South Team and also earned First Team All-Orange Empire Conference honors. Last season Perkins hit .395 with two homers, 11 doubles, 27 RBIs, 45 runs, 21 walks and 42 stolen bases. She posted a .483 on-base percentage and a .532 slugging percentage and earned the team MVP and team defensive award. As a freshman in 2012, Perkins hit .362 with one homer, three doubles, one triple, 25 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. She holds Santa Ana career records with 89 runs scored and 63 stolen bases.
Perkins graduated from Edison High School in 2011, lettering in softball and basketball. She chose Tennessee over Idaho State, Cal State Fullerton and Louisiana-Lafayette.
