KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee football fans think of Vols Defensive Coordinator as a tough, hard-nosed guy. But at least one UT student has seen the softer side of Sal.
"Obviously when I'm around he's a teddy bear all the time. Normally around the football players, they know him as a grizzly bear," says freshman volleyball player Ashlyn Sunseri. Ashlyn is the daughter of Sal.
While Ashlyn works to to earn playing time on a loaded roster, Lady Vols coach Rob Patrick says she is right where he wants her to be.
Patrick say, "Ashlyn is doing exactly what we need her to do for our program right now. She's someone that is learning our system. Brings a lot of energy to the court."
The daughter of two college athletes, Sal played football and her mother was an All-American gymnast, Ashlyn certainly has the genes to be a star. But it is her work ethic that will push her on. Proud dad Sal Sunser saysi, "She's going to work to become a darn good volleyball palyer. One who's accountable. One of who coach Patrick will be able to trust."
Right now, Ashlyn says she is in the right situation. "It's definitely a dream come true. I always wanted to go to college close to my family. And so having both of my parents here is just a blessing and I cherious it."
