Todd Raleigh out as UT baseball coach

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- The University of Tennessee has fired baseball coach Todd Raleigh after a four-season tenure.

Raleigh was 42-78 in SEC games during his time in Knoxville. The Vols failed to qualify for the conference tournament in each of his four campaigns.

"We feel our baseball program, unfortunately, has not made the progress on the field that it should have over the last four years," said athletic director Mike Hamilton. "We believe a change in leadership is necessary in order to move the program forward. We appreciate Todd's efforts and wish him the best in all future endeavors."

Contractually, the university is obligated to pay Raleigh his annual base salary for the one year remaining on his contract, as well as one year?s worth of additional compensation for broadcast and shoe and apparel pay. That total is $331,657.53, payable over 12 months in equal installments.

Raleigh thanked the University in a statement sent to the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

"Thank the university, especially the players, some assistant coaches and some players' families for their support [during] my time here at Tennessee," Raleigh said in the release.

"Faced a lot of obstacles, APR, player turnover, which we tried to overcome in a tough environment and the best baseball conference in the country.

"As many of you know, there have been a lot of dynamic moving issues with UT athletics. Look forward to moving on and continuing coaching."

Again with the Mike Hamilton Comments. The posters on here and most Knoxville sites have Zero clue. All Mike Hamilton is trying to do is(drum roll) clean up the programs. UT is a academic institute first and athletic second. The coaches that Mike Hamilton has fired are not worth the money they were being paid...especially Todd(aka toad) Raleigh. There are many players that came to UT and quickly left due to this guys lack of knowledge and player development. Mike Hamilton is doing a great job. Sure, UT athletics will suffer a little in the short term but in the long term we will be a much greater Academic and Athletic institution.

Mike Hamilton has now presided over the absolute worst era in UT Sports history. I can't believe Jimmy Cheeks and in fact, the entire administration for continuing to stand behind individual who has literally become a laughing stock nationally and has done the same for our program making it very difficult to draw top notch athletes to UT in any sport other than the ladies basketball program. Thank God for Pat Summit or we would have a situation that could be described as nothing less than a total loss at present.
Give me a break, Hamilton's departure involuntary or otherwise is long overdue.

Wake up UT and fire the one who hired all those losers. Fulmer needs to be the AD.
