At last week's 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Convention in San Antonio, Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly received coaching milestone awards and the NFCA Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year award.
The Weeklys were Easton Victory Club honorees this year as Ralph Weekly received an award for reaching 1,100 coaching wins and Karen Weekly received one for achieving 800 coaching victories.
Ralph Weekly has amassed a 1,119-369-2 (.752) coaching record and currently ranks fifth in wins among active NCAA Division I head coaches. His 1,119 coaching wins stand ninth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches and 14th in NCAA history, regardless of division. Ralph Weekly's .752 winning percentage ranks seventh among active NCAA Division I coaches (minimum five years as an NCAA Division I coach).
Karen Weekly is 841-285-2 (.746) as a head coach and ranks 17th among active NCAA Division I head coaches in wins. Her 841 career victories stand 33rd all-time among NCAA Division I coaches and 52nd in NCAA history, regardless of division. Karen Weekly's .746 winning percentage ranks 10th among active NCAA Division I coaches.
The Weeklys have gone 618-188-2 over 12 seasons at Tennessee with six Women's College World Series appearances (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013) and two national runner-up finishes (2007, 2013).
Over the last nine years, Tennessee has produced the most All-Americans (27 honors) in the nation. UT is one of just three schools (Arizona State and Alabama are the other ones) to make six Women's College World Series trips in that stretch. The Lady Vols and Arizona are the only teams to rack up 15 WCWS victories in the last nine years.
The Tennessee coaching staff was also awarded the NFCA Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the second-straight year and the fifth time since 2005. The Lady Vols enjoyed one of the finest seasons in program history in 2013, finishing as the national runner-up, making their sixth Women's College World Series appearance in nine years and posting their eighth 50-win season with a final record of 52-12. The 2013 season featured several historic feats for UT as Karen Weekly recorded her 800th career win, Ralph Weekly recorded his 1,100th career win, Raven Chavanne earned Capital One Academic All-American of the Year honors and Lauren Gibson was named the SEC Player of the Year. The team featured three NFCA Division I first-team All-Americans in Chavanne, Gibson and Madison Shipman and three Capital One Academic All-Americans in Chavanne, Shipman and Ellen Renfroe.
The Lady Vols open the 2014 season on Feb. 7 against Northern Colorado in Statesboro, Ga. UT makes its home debut on March 5 with a doubleheader against Wright State.
