Maryville goes on scoring spree, comes back to beat Catholic

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- When Cody Shirley pounded his way into the end zone to give Catholic a 14-0 first-half lead, Maryville didn't panic.

Instead, they got even.

The Rebels scored 28 consecutive points and rolled to a come-from-behind win, 28-21 over Catholic in the Rivalry Thursday game of the week.

The Irish (4-3, 2-2 District 4-AAA) took the ball all the way down the field on their first drive, capping the series with a 22-yard touchdown run by Dorian Cozart to take a 7-0 lead.

After Shirley tacked on a touchdown to make the score 14-0, Maryville (6-1, 4-0) responded. Quarterback Phillip Juhlin connected with Stian Romberg right before halftime to cut the lead in half.

The Rebels rolled in the second half, tacking on 21 points before Scott Meadows' team scored late in the fourth quarter.

The win propels Maryville to 6-1 heading into next week's showdown with Farragut, which will essentially be for the district championship.
