Alcoa football ranked 79th nationally

ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Three weeks after winning its seventh straight state championship, the Alcoa football team received national attention.

The Tornadoes are ranked 79th in the Rivals' Top 100 prep rankings.

Alcoa is the only school from Tennessee in the national poll.

Earlier this month, Alcoa captured the Class AAA state title and won its 43rd straight game, capping off a second straight 15-0 season.

Here's what Rivals had to say about the Tornadoes: "Gary Rankin's team ran through the competition this season. With three players eclipsing the 1,000 yard mark, it was tough to slow the Tornadoes down."

Last season, Rivals ranked Alcoa 71st.

South Panola High School (Batesville, Miss) finished number one.
