KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (release) -- Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) is pleased to announce the addition of Coach Kurt Backstrom as Varsity Men’s Soccer Coach.
“Coach Backstrom brings a wealth of experience in both soccer knowledge and sports ministry,” CAK Athletic Director Steve Denny said. “We are looking forward to his leadership as a very well respected person in the Knoxville community.”
Backstrom has 30 years of playing and coaching experience and was most recently the assistant boys’ soccer coach at Farragut High School.
Backstrom holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Howard University and a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Kentucky. He played college soccer at IUP, where he earned all-conference and Regional All-American honors in 1971. Backstrom was a two-time captain for his
IUP soccer team.
CAK received various candidates from various parts of the United States and Europe. Coach Backstrom becomes CAK’s seventh head coach, in a program that has celebrated six state championships over the last 10 years.
“CAK has established an expectation for a title game experience and Coach Backstrom is committed to working toward that goal,” Denny added.
