MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Carter saw its season end Thursday in the boys' state tournament class AA quarterfinals with a 67-64 loss to Greeneville.
It was a turnaround season for the Green Hornets. The team won just 8 gamess last year, but first year head coach Joby Boydstone took the community by storm with his (successful) helter-skelter offensive system.
Carter consistently scored 100+ this year, but on Thursday the Hornets weren't on their offensive game, shooting 41% from the field with 0 made three pointers.
The game was tight throughout. Things were tied at 17 at the end of the first quarter. Carter held a one point lead at the break.
The Hornets maintained that slim advantage after three quarters, but Greeneville got hot at the right time and outscored Carter 24-20 in the final frame.
Hayes Culbreth had a game high 22 points for the Greene Devils.
Charles Mitchell paced the Hornets with 18. Jordan Bowden added 17.
Carter ends the year with a 28-8 record.
