ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Before he can play football, Randall Cobb is playing the waiting game.
The former Alcoa and Kentucky star is staying busy as he rides out the NFL lockout. Saturday he was in Alcoa, signing autographs at the MLK Center.
"[The lockout] is frustrating, but at the same time it's a good time to get a little bit of a break," Cobb said.
"Hopefully we get things rolling and get this whole situation over soon."
Cobb has bounced back and forth between Phoenix, Los Angeles and Florida, busy training for his rookie season after the Green Bay Packers drafted him with the final pick in the second round of the NFL Draft in April.
"They just tell us to be ready," Cobb said. "Right now we just have to make sure we're staying in shape and physically conditioned and ready to go whenever the lockout is over, because really that's the only thing we can control.
"Everything else is business and that's done up top."
Cobb may be anxious for the season to start, but he's also eager to begin the philanthropic portion of his career. In fact, he isn't waiting for the lockout to end to begin his work in the community.
"There's a lot of things that I wanna do and try to help out in the community," Cobb said. "I think it's all about giving back.
"I've put myself in a good situation. I just want to show [kids] how I became successful and how I got to where I am today."
Cobb said he plans on funding a college scholarship for high-school athletes. At some point in his career, he's also interested in giving back to the Alcoa football program.
But for now, Cobb is simply trying to make the most of a frustrating situation and hoping his NFL career will begin in 2011 and not a year later.
