Countdown to Kickoff: Greenback

GREENBACK, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Greenback has played impressive football lately.

The Cherokees have have at least eight games three of the last four years.

With 18 total starters back fro ma squad that went 9-2 last year, there's no reason why Greenback shouldn't expect even more success this fall.

"We have the players and the talent. We just need to believe what the coaches are telling us and come together," defensive back Eric Anderson said. "I think we can be a good team."

When you play in a smaller classification like Greenback does, numbers and depth is often be a problem. This season, however, head coach Justin Ridge has a luxury: he's deep on the lines.

"We're use to taking quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers and making them into linemen," Ridge joked.

"We usually have the classic 150 pound guard. Now we actually have a good, solid group of linemen that are linemen by trade."

Greenback opens up the season August 17 at Oneida. The Cherokees won last year's game 34-31.
