KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Karns High School enters a new year with something new for the Beavers: momentum.
Karns made the postseason last year for the first time since since 2004.
And with a solid group of Beavers returning, head coach Derek Witt has a team that could be back in the postseason this year.
Karns has 14 total starters back, eight on offense, six and defense.
Witt has talked to his team about the program making the next step.
"We just had a long conversation with the seniors last year that they probably have the hardest road ahead of them. There wasn't any expectation from the senior class last year," Witt said.
"These guys know that the foundation has been laid and now we're gonna try to build on top of that. We're gonna lean on that senior leadership this year. We lost 20 but we've got 17 coming right in behind them."
Witt added that depth will be a concern this year for the Beavers, but he does like the leadership his squad possesses.
Karns opens up the year August 17 at home against South-Doyle.
