Countdown to Kickoff: Oliver Springs

OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Oliver Springs is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history.

The Bobcats posted a 9-5 mark in 2011, but it was a season that went all the way to the state semifinals.

Because of that success, the interest in Bobcat football is growing.

"A lot more kids are coming out," assistant coach Tony Keagley said.

" The middle school kids are coming up really excited. We're getting great participation in the weight room this summer. We're excited."

The Bobcats bring back five starters on both sides of the ball. Oliver Springs will start the season with an unproven quarterback, but that doesn't stop wide receiver John Sims from feeling confident.

"Absolutely we're gonna be good this year. No doubt," Sims said. "We've been working out hard. I have no doubt in this year."

Oliver Springs open up the season August 17 at Kingston. The Yellowjackets won last year's meeting 35-31.
