ALCOA (WVLT) -- The word "dominant" falls well short of describing the Alcoa Tornadoes.
Gary Rankin's team won its seventh consecutive state championship last season, and the Tornadoes are gunning for No. 8 in 2011.
If they're to win the title, it'll take strong play from a new quarterback. Gone is Austin Tallent, who led the Tornadoes to a 30-0 record over the past two seasons. D.J. Oggs and Landon Turbyfill will battle for the starting job in Tallent's absence.
While Alcoa lost its quarterback, it returns eight starters on each side of the ball. Such talented experience will be necessary against a stacked schedule, which includes defending state champs Maryville and Greeneville, as well as Austin-East, Fulton and CAK.
