KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Powell was among the most impressive teams in the state last year.
The Panthers cruised to a 10-0 regular season record, winning nine of those games by double digits.
Enter the postseason, where Powell was upset in the second round by Anderson County, a team the Panthers beat by 30 points earlier in the season.
"I think we learned a major lesson last year and the lesson was that you have to come prepared with your best effort every Friday," Panthers head coach Matt Lowe told WVLT.
"We've learned from that experience and it's something that has helped this team during the off-season."
With eight starters returning on both offense and defense, many of the weapons Lowe had at his disposal in 2010 are back this fall, including quarterback Dustin McPhetridge and running back/linebacker Dy'Shawn Mobley.
Both players are drawing attention from Division I schools.
Despite a team loaded with talent and experience, Lowe does not entertain the thoughts of another perfect regular season.
"Those (going 10-0) take a lot of the ball bouncing your way for those things to happen. We're not focused on going 10-0. We're focused on being 1-0. If we can get to that point, then good. Hopefully we can make some things happen."
Powell opens up the season August 19 at Rhea Co.
