BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- David Gregory is entering his third season as William Blount's head coach.
Unfortunately for Gregory, the Governors have finished 3-7 in both of his first two years.
Gregory admits that being so close to powerhouses Alcoa and Maryville has made things more difficult, saying that he's never had to sell his program to middle school students that are in his school system.
"Parents are looking at, 'Well, Maryville and Alcoa have this and we want our kid to be a part of that," Gregory said. "It's a hard sell. We just try to sell that you've got the opportunity to play football and not just sit on the sidelines. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."
Gregory returns four starters on offense from last year's team, and five on defense. The coach feels good about the talent he has at the skill positions, but the Governors' secondary will be a concern heading into 2010.
William Blount opens up the season August 19 at Sevier County.
