Farragut blanks Houston 4-0 to claim school's 9th state title

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Vanderbilt commitment Patrick Raby was in command all night on the mound. That was bad news for Houston.

Raby pitched seven shutout innings, helping Farragut defeat Houston 4-0 Friday night in the Class AAA state title game.

It's Farragut' ninth state championship. It's doubtful the previous eight were as emotional.

The Admirals played the season in memory of Scott Dean. Dean was an assistant coach on the team until he unexpectedly died in January of a heart attack at age 28.

"You know, it's been a long year," Farragut head coach Matt Buckner said. "We lost our assistant coach. That's why they were putting up a number five right there. This one is for Scott Dean right here tonight. It's really an emotional thing and a special job by these guys tonight."

Raby took the mound and took the game in his hands.

"I said no matter what happens, I'm gonna finish this game and I'm gonna get it for Scotty and get it for the team," Raby said.

"I told them I would put the team on my back and I would do it."

Farragut's nine titles are the third most in the state. Christian Brothers has the most with eleven.
