Bearden advances, Fulton, West ousted from state tournament

Liberty 67, Fulton 62

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Fulton had hopes of capturing its third title in four years, but saw those dreams dashed when the Falcons lost 67-62 to Liberty Thursday afternoon in the state tournament quarterfinals.

Fulton played well early, especially in the first half, as the Falcons shot 55% from the field, helping the team to a 30-24 at halftime.

Jaeland Lawson lead Fulton with 18 points, ten of which came in the first half.

Liberty's shooting fueled its second half comeback. The Crusaders shot 64 percent in the second half. Liberty's Anthony Kendall had a fantastic outing, scoring a game-high 33 points.

Fulton ends the season with a 21-11 record, while Liberty improves to 31-3.
Craigmont 69, West 64

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- West head coach Chris Kessler was back on the sidelines, but it wasn't enough as the Rebels lost to Craigmont 69-64 in the quarterfinals of the boys state tournament on the campus of Middle Tennessee State.

Last week, Kessler suffered a mild stroke, hospitalizing the coach for a few days.

West led 53-50 after three quarters, but saw the Chiefs outscore them in the final quarter 19-11.

Phillip Stanford led West with 14 points, but no other Rebel scored more than six.

The Rebels end the year 27-6, while Craigmont improves to 31-5.
MURFEESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Bearden Bulldogs are considered one of the teams to beat this week at the boys state tournament in Murfreesboro.

Thursday evening they showed why.

Bearden's Ty Greene pumped in a career high 32 points, leading the Bulldogs past McMinn County 76-48.

Bearden led 46-27 at the half and never looked back.

The Bulldogs shot over 52 percent from the floor, while the Cherokees hit just 34 percent of their shots.

Bearden is now 34-2 on the season. The squad advances to the state semifinals and will face Siegel Friday evening at 7:45 EST.
