CORRYTON, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Gibbs' Lady Eagles softball coach Carol Mitchell won her 700th game Friday night when Gibbs downed Clinton 7-1 in district tournament play.
"I don't even know what our record is during the season," Mitchell said after the game, which included a short ceremony to honor the milestone win.
Mitchell said she knew she was getting close to 700, but until somebody tallied up the career wins, she wasn't exactly sure where she was at. Like any highly competitive coach, it's the losses that often stick out.
"Someone always has to say, 'Well, what are we?' I know at one time we were something and one and then something and two. So you really don't keep up with that as a coach. We've had a lot of kids go thru this program and they're all part of the 700 wins. So it's really a tribute to Gibbs' girls softball."
The Gibbs softball program has nine state championships. Mitchell has coached the Lady Eagles to four of them. She also won four state titles playing for Gibbs.
