KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Halls High School football program has a new leader Tuesday night.
WVLT's media partner, PrepXtra.com, is reporting that Carter High School offensive coordinator J.D. Overton has been named the Red Devils' head coach on an interim basis.
Halls athletic director Jason Webster confirmed the move, which comes a week and a half after Kevin Julian's resignation as Halls' head football coach.
Similar to Julian, Overton has a run-first mentality. Last year, Carter averaged nearly 250 rushing yards a game.
Overton will try to turn around a Halls' program that has struggled to win.
The Red Devils are 1-19 the last two seasons.
