Saturday prep football scores

ALCOA/MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Seven East Tennessee teams, plus one from Kentucky, took to two football fields Saturday night in a pair of doubleheaders.

At Alcoa High School, the Tornadoes welcomed Maryville, Webb, and Cleveland to their campus.

Meanwhile, in Morristown, it was Morristown West, Morristown East, Fulton and Harlan Co. (KY) invading the turf at Burke-Toney Stadium.

Maryville took on Cleveland in the first game at Alcoa. The Rebels overcame four turnovers to win the game 41-17. It marked Maryville's 30th straight win.

"It looked like a first game," Maryville head coach George Quarles said.

"It's a good win. We did some really good things. Lot of mistakes though. Four turnovers were killers for us. We gave up some big plays on defense. Hopefully we can learn between now and next week because we'll play a much better opponent next week."

Next week that opponent is perennial power, and number one rival, Alcoa. It's a Sunday game that will be aired nationally on ESPN2 starting at noon.

Alcoa will also enter the game with a 1-0 record. The Tornadoes edged past Webb 14-7 Saturday night.

The Spartans took the lead, 7-0. Alcoa then tied things up and at the half it was 7-7. Alcoa scored the second half's only touchdown for the final margin.

In Morristown, the host Trojans took on Harlan Co. (KY) in the opening game. Morristown West beat the Black Bears 35-25.

Trojan running back Malachi Horton rushed for over a 100 yards in the win.

In the nightcap, Fulton blanked Morristown East 33-0. Fulton quarterback Penny Smith was 7-for-10 thru the air with 196 yards and three touchdowns.

The Falcons improved to 4-2 all-time against the Hurricanes.
