NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Derick Wyatt scored 27 points, including a free throw with 22.1 seconds and a spinning five-footer with 5 seconds to play, and Franklin Road Academy held off Webb School of Knoxville 55-52 Saturday to win the Division II Class A girls championship.
The Lady Panthers (27-3) withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Lady Spartans, who trailed 46-33 with 5 minutes remaining in the game, but got as close as 53-52 when Marjorie Butler made a layup with 15.8 seconds to play.
Webb (27-6) had a final chance to tie the game, but Jane Romano's 3-point attempt from the right wing hit the rim and bounced away as the horn sounded.
Butler, who was named the Division II Class A Miss Basketball winner immediately following the game, scored 27 points. Romano finished with 12 for the Lady Spartans.
Wyatt was named tournament MVP.
