5-star Georgia point guard commits to Lady Vols.

Knoxville, Tenn--(WVLT) The Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team picked up a major commitment Thursday.

Te'a Cooper, a 5'8" point guard from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA has announced her verbal commitment to her college basketball in Thompson-Boling Arena. According to ESPN.com Cooper is the 6th best point guard in the 2015 class, and the the 12th best player in class across all positions.

Cooper had previously committed to play for the North Carolina Tar Heels, as an 8th grader. She retracted the commitment last fall.

Cooper averaged 19.6 points as a junior and helped McEachern win the Georgia state championship. While she's obviously able to score the basketball, Cooper's ball handling ability may be an even greater skill.

Cooper is a former AAU teammate of ACC Freshman of the Year, Diamond DeShields who left North Carolina at the end of the Spring semester. DeShields, averaged 18 points and 5.4 rebounds a game for the Tar Heels and helped to lead the Heels to the Elite Eight this past year.

Cooper's commitment has led to speculation that DeShields, who visited Tennessee recently, might also be coming to Knoxville. DeShields has stated; however, via her twitter account that she is not part of package deal with Cooper.

Cooper will play for the USA Basketball U-17 team during the FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic later this month.
