MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Heritage High School standout pitcher Trevor Clifton committed to Kentucky Tuesday afternoon.
The Wildcats have long been on the top of the Clifton's list.
"It's just three hours away, so that proximity is good for my family," Clifton told Local 8 Sports, fifteen minutes after accepting the Wildcats' offer.
"They have a great coaching staff, and being in the SEC, playing against Tennessee will be pretty cool," Clifton added.
Clifton stands 6'4" and has a rocket for an arm. Heritage head coach Robbie Bennett said Clifton topped out at 94 miles per hour last week at a tournament in New York. Bennett said Clifton consistently throws 90-91.
ESPN ranks Clifton as the third best right handed pitcher in the class of 2013.
If drafted high enough, Clifton said he would have to weigh his options of playing at Kentucky or making the leap to professional baseball.
In a mock draft, mymlbdraft.com has Clifton going in the first round with the 25th overall pick to the Atlanta Braves.
