KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After a perfect 2-0 weekend in singles, freshman Eve Repic has earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors for the week of April 14 as announced by the conference Monday.
The honor is the first of Repic’s career. The Oakville, Ontario native has been ranked in the ITA Singles polls since the beginning of the year.
Repic is the first Vol to win Freshman of the Week honors since Tiffany Tavares earned the award back on March 27, 2013.
Repic, ranked 75th, upset No. 36 Pleun Burgmans Friday night in a clutch three-set victory that marked her eighth win over a ranked opponent.
The win over Burgmans was the highest opponent Repic has defeated since besting Danielle Collins of Virginia (28) back on January 18.
With the victory, Repic helped the Lady Vols to a 4-3 comeback win over the Tigers. The Lady Vols fell behind 0-3 early and clawed their way back for the win, which helped seal an important six seed in the SEC Tournament through the tiebreak process.
Repic was well on her way to another upset on Sunday over 53rd ranked Mary Anne Daines of Alabama (7-5, 1-0, unf.) when the match was called and she captured her second win of the weekend with a 7-5, 6-1 beat of Tiffany William of Middle Tennessee State.
The SEC Weekly Honor is the second for a Lady Vols this year. Junior Caitlyn Williams earned Co-Player of the Week honors last week.
Repic and the Lady Vols are back in action on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. in the SEC Tournament where they will face the winner of the No. 11 LSU vs. No. 14 Mississippi State match in Columbia, Mo.
