Saban: No reason to start comparing him to Bear

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama coach Nick Saban isn't interested in comparisons to Bear Bryant.

Speaking at Southeastern Conference media days Thursday, Saban says he sees no reason "anybody should do that. I think Bear Bryant is probably the greatest coach ever in college football."

Saban cited Bryant's accomplishments and consistency over a long period of time. He led the Tide to six national titles.

Saban has won two straight championships and three of the last four after claiming another one at LSU. `Bama is the heavy favorite to win the SEC again.

Alabama was the overwhelming pick by league media to repeat as SEC champions. Saban noted reporters have only been right four times in 21 years and says picking a preseason favorite is "crazy" because there are so many factors.
