Vols Victorious Versus Victory, 99-57

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee pulled away in the second half and cruised to a 99-57 victory over Victory University, before 14,788 at Thompson-Boling Arena on Monday night.
Redshirt freshman Quinton Chievous and junior Jordan McRae led the Vols with 15 points apiece.
Freshman Armani Moore netted 11 while senior Kenny Hall had 10 points and five rebounds.
Tennessee had a balanced effort all evening as all 10 Vols to play scored at least six points.
Demonstrating the balance, the Vols had eight players score at least eight points. Junior point guard Trae Golden had eight points, eight assists and five rebounds without a turnover.
On the glass, Chievous grabbed a team-high nine rebounds as nine of the 10 Vols had at least three rebounds. Chievous also had six boards.
Memphis-based Victory, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), was led by Keron Jackson, who tallied 14 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
After leading by 12 at halftime, Tennessee opened the second half with a 9-2 run keyed by a Stokes layup and dunk just seconds apart. That gave the Vols a 50-28 advantage with 17 minutes left in regulation.
The Vols continued to expand their lead as the second half moved along with contributions from newcomers Moore (11 points) and D'Montre Edwards (seven points), who each made their Vols' debut.
The needle moved to 30 on a pair of free throws by McRae with 11:31 left in regulation, making it 66-36.
Tennessee finished the game on a 14-0 run for the final margin of 42.
Tennessee led the Eagles, 38-26 at halftime as no Vol had more than six points (Golden) in the first half.
Tennessee used an 11-1 run late in the first half to take a 30-20 lead on a layup by Chievous with 4:39 left in the first half.
The Vols started sluggish and fell behind 14-8 after Jackson hit consecutive 3-pointers 5:28 into the action as Victory went on a 10-0 run. McRae stopped the spurt with a try of his own to cut the deficit to 14-11. The Vols took the lead for good at 15-14 on a driving Trae Golden layup with 13:15 left in the first half.
Tennessee was without four players for its exhibition including starting senior forward Jeronne Maymon (knee) along with senior forward Dwight Miller (knee surgery), senior forward Rob Murphy (nose surgry) and freshman guard Derek Reese (labral tear).
The Vols open the 2012-13 regular-season on Friday night as Kennesaw State comes to Thompson-Boling Arena for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game will air on Fox Sports South.
