KNOXVILLE (WVLT) - WVLT has learned that Duke Crews' indefinite suspension from the Tennessee basketball team was tied to marijuana found in his residence hall apartment, according to a UT police report.

The report states that the assistant hall director responded to a noise complaint at Crews' apartment Monday evening. He smelled a strong odor and contacted UT Dean of Students Maxine Thompson, who authorized him to search the apartment. He confiscated marijuana from the room and contacted UT Police.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, WVLT's media partner, he had previously failed a drug test since enrolling at UT.

The marijuana incident was apparently the last straw for Crews. He had also allegedly shown up late to some team meetings and workouts.

The official reason given by Bruce Pearl for Crews' suspension was a violation of team rules. “Duke is a very intelligent student-athlete but has made some poor decisions,” Pearl said in the release that announced the suspension. “It is in his, as well as the team’s, best interest that he is suspended at this time.”

Wouldnt you think this guy would have learned from what happened to Major Wingate last season? Same time, same circumstances, same charges. Is it live, or is it Memorex? I would bet he ends up getting tossed...and that will be a shame. Its unfortunate when someone makes a choice such as this one where it could impact his life significantly.
